Casper Ruud and Francisco Cerundolo open the 2026 Laver Cup at The O2 in London in a rematch of their 2024 meeting, when Cerundolo handed Ruud his only singles defeat in the competition. Ruud returns for a sixth consecutive Laver Cup appearance and once again has the responsibility of trying to give Team Europe an early advantage, while Cerundolo arrives for Team World with confidence after a strong season that included titles in Buenos Aires and at Queen’s Club. The Argentine leads their head-to-head 5-4, but Ruud won their most recent meeting in Madrid last year. With every Day 1 victory worth one point, the opening match provides both teams with an immediate opportunity to establish momentum in London.
